I slept poorly on account of racing thoughts as I turned over and over in my mind all the angles of Ramos and Gremag’s offer. As a result I was up late which drew a reproachful eye from Alice, although I could ask why she was still at home at that hour in kind. I felt ill at sorts and didn’t want to do any work so I didn’t. I went to the market at noon and sold the maid’s necklace along with the woodman’s flute and tools and sat at what passes for a café in this one donkey town drinking wine and nibbling on pastries.
I spent the afternoon asking around about the tribesmen I had encountered in the woods, but found out little other than the townsfolk hate and fear them. Next I did some digging on Recutio and discovered that he’s a courier that often works for Ramal and Gremag – he must have learned something dangerous about them, could worth an approach. After that I spent a few hours watching Piltis’s candleworks and saw the mush-mouth guardsman again. On a whim I followed him home. His house was small but surprisingly nice and he was greeted by another surprise – a very attractive young wife. I wonder how he pulled that off. The sign on the door said “Gridley”.
Exhausted I splurged on a meal of honey braised owlbear ribs and elfen bread and a decent bottle of wine. I mixed up some of my dreamer’s star before turning in and resolved to get an early start tomorrow.
