A night in a proper bed did me a world of good. I still feel poorly but no longer knocking on death’s door. I reluctantly parted with some coin to have a priest of Lucre cast a restoration spell on me, I have a lot to do today.
I spent a good part of the morning checking up on the merchants I met last night, making sure they were legitimate. After that I did some more work cultivating my rumors, as I was doing so I heard enough to feel that they had finally taken hold. After that I did some more surveillance on Piltis’ run down hovel-base and grabbed one of his candleboys who was sent out on an errand.
He was reluctant to talk at first, clearly terrified of Piltis (rightfully), but I was able to loosen his tongue. Little of what he said was of much value, but he did talk about Piltis’ love of dog-fighting and his adoration of his prize-beast “Crackbone”. I sent the boy on his way and spent several hours gathering information on where the local degenerates gather for these bloodsports.
After that I hunted up Augrim for a late lunch and further lessons. He seemed nonplussed by me turning back up. “I figured you died” he shrugged. A real humanitarian this one. I asked him if he would take me to meet with the Kostelos and starting building that relationship. He said it was too soon, I told him I would win them over, he said it was my funeral. I spent the remainder of the day buying up trade goods that I thought might appeal to dirty woodland barbarians. I also picked up a magic collar that rich women use to make their pets look more appealing.
Before turning in I met up with Sonsts and the merchants again. I told them that my benefactor was going to buy in for three shares, but that she would only be paying the gold for one. Before they could sputter out their protests I explained why – I could get them through Kostelos territory so they could take the northern passage instead of the longer eastern route, getting their goods to market in half the time. They were skeptical at first but I was able to convince them I was legitimate.
Tomorrow I’ll see if I was lying or not. Figuring Augrim to be an early riser I took the last of my tea to ensure a good and short night’s sleep.
