Today I found a young recruit in town on his way to the Vieland front who was very eager to give me some crossbow lessons.  I rather doubt that the standard army training involves as much close body contact as he initiated but it’s a small price to pay.  I’m no marksman to be sure, but I learned well enough how to load and fire – if it ever becomes necessary I’m sure I could hit a bloated whale like Piltis, as long as I’m not too far away.  Afterwards I told him to meet for me for a tryst at my former room at the Cardshire Arms.  An old joke, but a good one.

After that I decided to put a name to some of my enemies and did some information gathering.  The priest of Strider who stole my money and failed to do anything wasn’t in town, as befits his wandering mendicant god, but does come through Graltontown regularly and goes by the name of Erist.  So called ‘adventurers’ also tend to be nomads but the ones I had had a run in with were based out of Graltontown and called themselves the Heroes of the Lost Sword.  The arrogance of these people running around the country like murderous vagrants astounds me.  They operate out of a tavern, of course, called Guernica. 

The owner of the Sage Mirror is called Riselda and is currently involved with a watch-sergeant named Juliana.    After that round of intelligence gathering I spent some time looking for some bodyguards to accompany me on the caravan.  They’ll have a few guards of course but I want some bodies along who are just looking after me.  It’s not something I know much about but I identified what I hope are some decent candidates.  After that I returned to the Hound’s Tooth and discussed with Tolman Goodwill where I might purchase two good guard dogs.  He gave me a few names and when I reached for my purse to give him a coin for his help I found it was gone!  Someone had stripped ME.  Thankfully half of my funds were in my money belt or my hidden pockets but I was humiliated. 

I stewed in my anger the rest of the night.
