Mantelderith 2, Year 887 (New Imperial Calendar)

Day 2 on the road to Three Rivers.  This morning over a very unsatisfying breakfast of thin porridge people were laughing about the encounter with Eedraxis yesterday.  I knew they were just joking around, which was good because it meant they weren’t upset about it, but I had to bite my tongue to keep from lashing out at them nonetheless.  We wouldn’t even be here right now if it wasn’t for me.  It’s a good thing this is a short journey, again thanks to me, otherwise I could see this really starting to rankle me.

Later in the day the guards noticed a few wolves shadowing us.  Very strange behavior for them to be so bold around a group this large.  The dogs and a few crossbow bolts scared them off.  I am sure that I saw a person in the distance watching this play out, but no one else said anything about it and after the fiasco with Eedraxis I didn’t want to say saying and potentially appear foolish.

Later in the day we spotted a group of travelers a few miles away and changed course slightly to intersect with them.  They turned out to be a group of religious types on their way to a holy site of their god Melmoth.  We shared a camp and they insisted on “hosting” us for dinner, which after a very long and boring speech about the glory of their god, was quite good.

I decided to entertain the group with some singing, trying to save face a little bit I admit, and they were very appreciative. Even though we’ve only been on the road for two days there’s not much to do once we’ve made camp and people are excited for any kind of distraction.  I just hope they don’t start thinking I’m going to be doing this every night.

Behind the curtain – The encounter today for the Earn XP activity was supposed to be a werewolf, which technically is CR 2 but werewolves are too cool to be dispatched like that so I had some wolves being controlled by a werewolf instead.  It could be interesting to have one of the people on the caravan turn out to be a werewolf but that’s a wrinkle I’ll think about later.

The caravan event was another Caravan, which didn’t make sense because the whole idea is that caravans don’tgo this way, so I changed it to be pilgrims instead.  The Resolve check was passed to befriend them, but there is no more room to take on trade goods so instead I had no stores used up on resting – representing a meal from the pilgrims.
