I took Elth to see Brigid to have her fitted for a new dress, if she’s useful for nothing else (which seems to be the case) she should at least serve as a distraction.  They got on like they were old friends, which I found quite annoying giving the old bat’s brusque manner with me.  When I asked her about it she told me that good country folk need to look out for each other whereas “women like you have no problem looking out for yourself”.  Once again I am reminded that no one is on my side.  Doesn’t seem quite right.

Elth does look very fetching in her new blue dress but I think the way men were gawking and fawning over here was a little over the top.  I suppose someone like her is more approachable than a true beauty like myself – that intimidates a lot of lower class types.  I have to shake my head though, this girl wants to be a carpenter?  That would be criminal.

I had her buy a bushel of apples and then sent her into Claire’s path as he went home for lunch with his wife.  The girl acts about as well as a circus dog on its hind legs, somehow she managed to make dropping a basket of apples seem unrealistic, but it hardly mattered when she bent down to collect them.  Claire, and several other males in the area, were helping her out before the apples stopped rolling.  I took that opportunity to slip past the owner of the Cardshire Arms and delicately lift his Bag of Tricks from where he kept it tucked into his belt.  It was fine work if I do say so myself.

Not sure if I’ll keep it or sell it, but the important thing is that I took it away from him. On a whim I sent Elth back to help out Brigid and headed to the Gridley residence.  I tossed a ball from the Bag of Tricks through the window and heard a lot of shrieking and crashing about.  Moments later a boar came barreling out the front door, knocking it off its hinges.  A petty sort of thing, beneath me really, but what’s life without whimsy?

After that I spent some time trying to track down Dorehe but she was proving to be frustratingly elusive.  Who knew it would be so hard to find a maid?  I collected Elth and turned in early again, much to her disappointment.
