I slept remarkably well for being in a long abandoned city transmogrified into the lynchpin in a slaving operation. I could sense that the rest of the party was getting restless so I suggested that while I observed our targets they head out of the city and sweep the perimeter to see what they could see – mostly to keep them busy, but you never know, they may stumble across something. Molly and Arlonni helped sneak me into position and then at my suggestion made themselves scarce – there’s no reason for us to stay together and this way we minimize the damage if one of us is discovered.
I didn’t see the potion-maker or his horrid little constructs today and the wizard was out watching the slaves more than usual. I was assuming that this meant my little gift worked and it was confirmed after a few hours when the giant flew up and started berating the wizard. Seems my scheme worked better than I could have hoped – the potions Serensa tried to pawn off on us were some kind of necrotoxin, and since this wizard was in fact a necromancer and he had beef with the potion-man it was pretty easy for them to connect the dots. The wizard vociferously protested his innocence, on account of he was innocent and all, but the giant shouted him down – almost literally, his voice was so powerful it looked like the almost blew the wizard off his feet.
Shortly thereafter the dragon turned up and joined in on the action – I have to give the guy some credit, he was clearly cowed but remained sullenly defiant as well, I’m not sure how many people could stand up to a giant and a dragon bawling them out and not cower in abject terror. Yet there wasn’t much they could do – without the wizard and his skeletons to keep the slaves in line they were in a bad spot. I’m sure they could kill them easily enough but that’s not really the point with slaves. After that the giant disappeared again and the dragon stayed to help watch over the chattel – I’m no expert in draconic facial expressions but it didn’t seem happy to be doing so in the slightest.
Arlonni and Molly rendezvoused with me late in the day and it was time to continue the ruse. I have identified which building the wizard had claimed as his own and I gave them the other three potions to hide in his affects – but not so well that they couldn’t be found if someone was looking for them. Since Arlonni had done the planting of yesterday Molly went today. No matter how stealthy you think you are that has to be terrifying.
Once we all meet back up at “our” buildings at the edge of down Argo reported that they found some wagon-tracks that seemed to be out of place for a long abandoned city. That could be where the supplies are coming in and they were resolved to stake it out the next day.
Things are going so well it’s enough to make you wonder if some horrible reversal is hurtling towards me.
